👜 Market Tote Crochet Pattern
A full construction plan, not just a motif: every round is computed by the stitch engine and verified before publishing — the finished object comes out the size the title promises.
📏 ≈29cm wide × 20cm tall (excl. handles), strap drop ≈18cm — worsted cotton
Finished size & materials
📏 ≈29cm wide × 20cm tall (excl. handles), strap drop ≈18cm — worsted cotton. Written for worsted (category 4) yarn and a 5.0-5.5mm hook at ≈0.7cm per single crochet. Gauge decides the final size — hook a small swatch first and adjust the hook, not the stitch counts. Every round below is computed by the stitch engine: if a round says it starts at 72 and ends at 66, those numbers reconcile.

Assembly & finishing
- base — Increase until the disc measures ≈29cm across — this circle IS the bag's floor, so measure it flat before moving on. Dense tension here decides whether the bag sags later.
- body — 22 even rounds (≈15cm) with zero increases — straight walls. Mark the round start. Cotton yarn is non-negotiable for a load-bearing bag; acrylic stretches under weight.
- handle front — Join at the front top edge over any 8 sts; work a firm 8-st tube for 26 rounds (≈18cm drop). Reinforce with one sc round around the whole strap at the end.
- handle back — Mirror the front handle on the back edge. Wide flat straps spread load; never substitute a bare chain.
